Ainaži Northern pier

Water all around but you - still on land? This is what the Ainaži Northern pier is for – here you can enjoy the eternal cinema of nature – sunset – with shows every evening and every season. The pier is a witness of the former vibrant everyday of Ainaži port at the beginning of the 20th century. It is located just at the border of Latvia and Estonia. The main task of the pier was to provide and ease delivery and transportation of the cargo from ships further inland. The construction of the pier was started in 1912, but these works were interrupted by the WWI. During the WWI the pier and the port were heavily damaged as it was a strategically important object. Ainaži Northern pier is the Great wall of Latvia with its length on shore 361 m and in the gulf – 482 metres.
